What are carbon emissions
As a result of travel, humans create quite a large carbon footprint on the environment in the form of carbon emissions.
The pollutants released are in the form of hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide, among a few others. In a natural cycle the carbon dioxide that is released is immediately absorbed by trees and other plants. However, humans are currently burning fossil fuels at a faster rate than nature can re-absorb.
Effects on Environment
There have been some ecosystems already affected by the climate change. If this trend continues and habits are moved, altered, and destroyed at the same rate certain species of plants and wildlife could face extinction.Car Emissions
Many people release carbon emissions into the air daily on their commute to work or other places by use of their vehicle.Airplanes
Airplanes leave the largest carbon footprint out of all forms of transportation. No matter if the flight is short or if it is long, there is a large amount of carbon emissions released into the air. Furthermore, the amount released will also determine if the passenger is in economy, business, or first class. Generally, the more expensive the class of flight, the more services added causes more emissions to be emitted.Train Emissions
Depending on the type of train used, rail travel can sometimes reduce carbon dioxide production by three to ten times less than air or other land travel. Different types of trains use different fuel sources and depending on the fuel source used will determine how many emissions are released.Greenest way to Travel
The Greenest way to travel is easily by Eurostar and High Speed Rail as it emits a lot less carbon emissions into the atmosphere. Travelling by aeroplane is a lot worse for the environment. To see how much carbon dioxide you produce when you travel check out the brand new Carbon Emission Calculator.
